Spring/Summer 2027: Six Ideas From the Collections
Spring/Summer 2027 offers several ways to change the relationship between a garment and the body. This selection brings together six collections covered by icönik, moving from Paris and London to Shanghai and New York. These are specific design ideas visible in the photographs, rather than a ranking or a claim that every runway followed the same direction.
1. Tailoring With an Altered Boundary — A.W.A.K.E. Mode
A navy cropped jacket sits above a long skirt punctured with large circles, while extended dark panels end in fringe. The contrast between a precise upper edge and a much less continuous lower half gives the outfit its movement. The useful idea is the placement of an interruption: an opening, a trailing length or a change in scale can make a familiar tailored shape feel different.

2. Glossy Separates After Dark — Mowalola
Mowalola’s red-brown jacket and shorts use a consistent reflective surface to unite two compact garments. The open neckline and short hem change the attitude of the tailoring while leaving the jacket recognisable. The combination shows how finish and proportion can do much of the work usually assigned to elaborate decoration.

3. Pattern in Several Scales — Shuting Qiu
A pale ground with large dark markings meets much brighter colours and finer detail lower down. Decoration gathers around the shoulder, while the narrow overall line prevents the different surfaces from becoming a shapeless mass. The principle is a change of scale within one outfit: a larger motif can frame a smaller one, with colour linking them across the body.

4. Romantic Volume, Displaced — Yuhan Wang
A pale blue lace dress keeps its upper section comparatively close, then expands across the hips before continuing into a longer skirt. The volume begins in an unexpected place. Rather than relying only on the delicacy of the surface, the outfit makes its character through a deliberately unsettled outline.

5. A Loose Shirt and a Sharper Lower Line — 6397
A relaxed pale blue shirt is paired with a red floral skirt that follows a narrower path below the waist. Their difference in colour and proportion allows each garment to stay legible. For everyday dressing, the relationship is as useful as either individual item: room in the upper half can be balanced by a more defined shape beneath it.

6. The Shirt Dress With a Wider Reach — Tolu Coker
A pale blue dress develops from a shirt-like upper half into a broad swinging skirt. The familiar collar and sleeves give the eye a starting point, while the expanding hem changes the amount of space the garment occupies. It is a clear example of how volume can transform a recognisable everyday form.

Reading the Ideas Together
What connects these photographs is attention to boundaries: where a jacket stops, where a skirt expands, where one colour meets another and where a surface becomes transparent or interrupted. They offer different styling possibilities without requiring the wearer to reproduce an entire runway image. A proportion or a relationship between two pieces can travel further than a single show look.
