Bottega Veneta Summer 2027: A Lighter Way to Wear the Familiar

Bottega Veneta's Summer 2027 collection approached warm-weather dressing through the small adjustments that change how clothes are worn. Presented in Milan on September 26, 2026, in the women's fashion-week calendar, Louise Trotter's collection brought women's and men's looks into the same seasonal conversation. The house's stated starting point was Milan itself: the changing light and the gradual removal of layers as spring becomes summer.

The opening womenswear look makes that transition concrete. In the official runway photograph, a long, pale beige coat is gathered into a knot at one side, revealing a white dress beneath. White cuffs turn back at the wrists, while an openwork scarf softens the neckline. An elongated tan woven shoulder bag echoes the coat's vertical line; black pumps provide a sharp finish. The knot is the decisive detail. It interrupts the coat's length and gives a familiar outer layer an improvised quality, without abandoning its tailored shoulders.

That balance between structure and looseness extended beyond the opening outfit. ELLE's collection report identifies basket-weave construction in a T-shirt, a fringed scarf used as a belt, and color combinations including lilac with butter yellow. Its account also singles out an orange leather midi dress. Together, those reported details suggest a wardrobe in which surface, proportion and styling carry the seasonal change. Texture becomes a practical design question: how can a recognizable house vocabulary suggest air, movement and less formality?

There is a clear institutional context for that question. Kering dates the house's founding in Vicenza to 1966 and the introduction of its Intrecciato weave to 1975. Trotter became creative director in January 2025 and presented her debut that September. Summer 2027 therefore belongs to the development of her Bottega language, rather than a debut narrative. The opening look offers one particularly legible proposition: keep the identity of the woven accessory, then alter the balance of the clothes around it.

The presentation's collaborators carried the emphasis on making into the show space. According to Bottega Veneta, Illya Goldman Gubin's Karton Hocker seats began as cardboard boxes crumpled by the artist's embrace, then coated in resin. A handmade leather flower rested on each seat. Florian Hecker's Scintillations 20 installation paired suspended loudspeakers with stainless-steel sound reflectors, while Mark Leckey supplied the original soundtrack. These were specific objects and commissioned works, giving the setting its own material and sonic identity.

Read through its opening image and the house's seasonal premise, Summer 2027 proposes an adaptable idea of polish. A coat can remain substantial while its hem is lifted; a woven bag can be assertive without overwhelming a pale outfit. The strongest argument is in that relationship between recognizable pieces and an unexpected gesture. Trotter's summer begins with changing the way the wardrobe sits on the body.
