Zankov Spring/Summer 2027: A Space-Age Language for American Knitwear
Henry Zankov’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection uses colour and pattern to make familiar shapes feel less settled. Vogue’s review connects the season with space-age references and identifies its title as Le Tourbillon. The six images selected here, published by W Magazine with credit to Zankov, show how that forward-looking mood can emerge through a pattern’s direction, an unexpected colour pairing or a layer that moves away from the body.
Graphic Surfaces, Moving Shapes
A long red garment carries large yellow and pale spirals down its front. The design is immediately graphic, but its line changes as it passes over the body. Rather than sitting like a picture on a wall, the pattern follows a moving surface. The contrast between a simple overall outline and an emphatic motif gives the look its force.
A lighter ensemble approaches the same question through overlapping panels. Broad olive and pale green shapes cover a sleeveless upper layer, with translucent extensions falling beside the arms. Below it, blue and purple fabric expands around the knee. The colours remain distinct, but the edges soften as the layers move. It is a useful counterpoint to the sharper spiral design.
A Different Kind of Contrast
Another look concentrates pale line drawings on a dark background. A large flower-like form and curved marks direct attention across the torso and legs, with an orange bag providing a much more solid block of colour beside them. The accessories are not simply finishing touches here. They can supply a shape or colour that changes how the garment is read.
The quieter combinations matter just as much. A small patterned shirt above pale green trousers lets one area of activity rest against a calmer surface. A short green-and-purple colour-blocked outfit, by contrast, relies on large uninterrupted areas. The bright striped bag alongside it introduces a second rhythm without making the garment itself more complicated.
Colour as Construction
Across the selected images, colour helps organise the outfit rather than merely decorate it. A dark red upper half can frame a much brighter lower edge; green can be divided by purple or softened by a translucent layer. These relationships change the apparent weight and direction of the silhouette.
That is what makes the collection’s future-facing references useful. The clothes do not need a literal space costume to feel exploratory. Their unfamiliarity comes from the way recognisable pieces are combined, and from the precision with which a colour or a pattern can redirect the eye.
