ULKIN Seoul Spring/Summer 2027 'Butterfly Dream': Sustainable Fashion Between Memory and Reality

ULKIN’s Spring/Summer 2027 show at Seoul Fashion Week took place on 2 September 2026 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza. Designer Lee Seong-dong titled the season HoJeopJiMong, or Butterfly Dream, drawing on the philosophical tale associated with Zhuangzi and the uncertain boundary between dreams and waking life.

The Collection and Its Design

The brand’s longstanding interest in upcycling and hybrid construction makes the premise especially productive. Transforming older materials and garments can create objects whose original identities are partly visible and partly dissolved. In the context of Butterfly Dream, those transformations become a visual analogy for the instability of memory and the difficulty of distinguishing a thing from what it might become.

The Runway or Presentation

ULKIN participated in a substantial DDP programme that combined contemporary Korean design houses, emerging brands and technical experimentation. The runway communicated a more conceptual use of sustainability than a simple claim about recycled fabric, treating material transformation as a source of philosophical and aesthetic possibilities.

Why It Matters

This collection adds an important South Korean perspective to an international archive of sustainable design. A complete illustrated version will document each upcycled component using the label’s own source notes and appropriately licensed photographs.
