Alchemy in the Absarokas: Calder Clark’s Montana Wedding Design

Blue and green linens, meadow-like flowers and woven pendant shades connect an outdoor Montana ceremony with a tented reception framed by the Absarokas.
A ceremony open to the mountains
For Dulcie and Nelson’s July 2022 wedding in Livingston, Montana, Calder Clark built a design around the scale and colour of the surrounding landscape. Empty bentwood chairs form two banks across the meadow, with a grass aisle between them. Low borders of white, blue and purple flowers mark the ceremony without closing off the mountain view.

A dining room beneath sailcloth
The reception translates the same palette into a temporary dining room. Long estate tables and round tables wear soft blue and green linens, while natural wood chairs keep the setting light. Woven pendant shades hang at varying heights beneath the white tent canopy. At the far end, a timber pergola covered with trailing flowers anchors the space. Calder Clark’s planning and design are joined by florals and production from Blossoms Events and tenting by Skyline Tent Company.

Details drawn from the setting
A green bar pairs timber-framed shelving with small lamps, glassware and fresh flowers. Botanical china, pale blue linens, lavender napkins and green-handled cutlery repeat the colour story at the table. Decorative fish and feathered fishing flies give the escort-card installation a local outdoor reference, carried into smaller paper and favour details. A flower-filled vintage pickup and olive welcome bags extend the palette into the surrounding landscape.
