Lie Sangbong Seoul Spring/Summer 2027 'Re:Bloom': Frida Kahlo, Memory and Forty Years of Design
Lie Sangbong returned to Seoul Fashion Week in September 2026 after a three-year absence with Re:Bloom, marking forty years of work. The collection drew on the life and art of Frida Kahlo, particularly the way the painter transformed personal suffering into creative expression.

The Collection and Its Design
The runway unfolded from darker imagery into colour and floral forms. Some pieces incorporated safety pins as both physical fasteners and visible symbols; one trench was divided into sections and reconnected. Other garments carried prints associated with Kahlo, while the designer’s recognizable use of Korean Hangul lettering appeared on flowing, hanbok-related surfaces.

The Runway or Presentation
The show opened with music by Korean traditional performer Kim Jun-su, introducing a culturally specific sound to a collection engaged with multiple histories. Changing colours and silhouettes created a narrative movement from restriction and fragmentation to a more openly floral finale.

Why It Matters
Re:Bloom is significant as both an anniversary and a return. The collection makes a case for fashion as an account of endurance, while bringing global artistic reference into contact with a distinctive Korean design identity.
