Zara Home Showroom by Vincent Van Duysen: A Coruña, 2023

The Zara Home Showroom in A Coruña, Spain, brought Vincent Van Duysen’s furniture collaboration with the Spanish brand into a physical setting in 2023. Rather than presenting each object in isolation, the temporary showroom invited visitors to consider how seating, tables, storage and accessories might inhabit one coherent domestic environment. Vincent Van Duysen Architects records the A Coruña showroom in its official project archive, situating it within the studio’s work across interiors, architecture and product design.

A fourth-floor showroom in the brand’s home city

The pop-up opened on 3 August 2023 on the fourth floor of Zara’s Calle Compostela store in A Coruña, the city where Zara Home has its origins. It brought together the first two editions of Zara Home+ by Vincent Van Duysen, creating the first occasion on which the complete presentation of both furniture collections could be experienced in one store. The exhibition was temporary, initially planned to remain available until October 2023. The use of an existing retail floor as a more considered interior environment gave the project a particular purpose: to let customers understand furniture through the relationship between pieces.

Furniture as an interior, not a catalogue

The first Zara Home+ collection, launched in 2022, concentrated on living-room furniture, while the second chapter turned towards the dining area and occasions for gathering. In A Coruña, the two collections were staged together. Sofas, armchairs, side tables, consoles, dining chairs and accessories could therefore be read as a shared domestic language. Instead of presenting the products as separate commercial categories, the project helped reveal proportions, distances, material relationships and the practical logic that gives a room its character.

The Van Duysen design vocabulary

Van Duysen’s official account of the collaboration describes his return to forms, materials and recurring ideas developed over more than three decades. The collection emphasises enduring shapes, comfort and tactile surfaces over short-lived statements. Solid oak and ash, alongside limestone and leather, are among the materials specified by the studio for the wider furniture programme. In the showroom, that sensibility provided an organising framework for the encounter with the objects. The qualities that make individual pieces feel composed also make it possible for them to occupy a quiet collective setting.

An accessible encounter with collectible design thinking

Until the A Coruña presentation, much of the Zara Home+ assortment had been sold primarily online or appeared selectively in stores. The pop-up changed the way visitors could assess the work: they could see scale in person, compare finishes and move among furniture arranged as part of a room. Local reporting also noted personalised service for the collection and a café operated with A Coruña institution Café Siboney. The coffee stop extended the domestic premise of the project, turning the visit into an experience rather than a simple merchandise display.

Why this project matters

The Zara Home Showroom demonstrates how a design collaboration can extend beyond a product range into an architectural proposition. A chair or table has a material story, but its use and presence become clearer when placed next to the other elements of daily living. In this sense, the temporary A Coruña project was not simply an exhibition of furniture; it was a spatial argument about how commercial interiors can communicate restraint, longevity and an approachable version of an architect’s design principles.
