Shang Palace at Shangri-La Istanbul by André Fu Studio: Chinese Fine Dining on the Bosphorus
Four dining chambers at the 2013 Shang Palace project translate the character of Chinese courtyard interiors into contemporary rooms.
Four contemporary dining chambers
At Shang Palace in Istanbul, André Fu approaches Chinese dining as a sequence of interiors. Completed in 2013, the Shangri-La restaurant draws on the sculptural character of historic Chinese courtyard chambers, translated into four contemporary dining spaces.

Reception and the main room
The reception sets the tone with a curved desk beneath a broad, folded ceiling form. In the main dining room, round tables and blue seating establish a measured rhythm, while patterned screens and warm lighting give the room depth.

Layers between the rooms
A curved, textured partition creates a quieter transition between spaces. The private-dining entrance continues that language through framed views, layered screens and a carefully placed floral arrangement. These details make the restaurant feel connected without making every chamber identical.

From arrival to private dining
The four photographs in the studio’s official project gallery follow that progression from arrival to dining and the more intimate spaces beyond.
