I by Inagiku at W Guangzhou by André Fu Studio: A Theatrical Japanese Dining Interior
A sequence of contrasting rooms translates Japanese theatre, Edo references and playful installations into a Guangzhou restaurant.
A theatrical dining concept
AFSO’s 2013 Japanese restaurant at W Guangzhou is identified in the studio’s archive as I by Inagiku. The 900-square-metre venue, with a six-metre ceiling, draws on Kabuki theatre to shape a dramatic dining setting.

A journey through contrasting spaces
The design moves from a rectilinear entrance into an organic main dining area and then more intimate private salons. Rustic textures and motifs associated with the Edo period provide references, while art installations introduce a playful change of tone.

Art within the architecture
The official gallery shows a geometric entrance installation, red sculptural forms above the bar and a dining room beneath a patterned circular ceiling. These changes in scale and detail give each setting a distinct visual character.
