Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, and began his career as a child with the Jackson 5. The group achieved enormous success at Motown, and Jackson's voice and stage presence quickly placed him at the center of attention.

From solo career to Thriller

Off the Wall, released in 1979, established a mature solo identity. Thriller, released in 1982, became a global phenomenon with Billie Jean, Beat It and the title track. Bad, Dangerous and HIStory extended his blend of pop, R&B, rock, dance and spectacular production.

Dance and visual revolution

His performance of Billie Jean at Motown 25 popularized the moonwalk for a vast audience. Videos such as Thriller transformed the music video into a cinematic production and had a lasting influence on choreography, costume and visual storytelling.

An immense and complex legacy

Jackson also supported humanitarian causes. His final years were marked by intense media scrutiny, legal proceedings and serious allegations that remain inseparable from debates about his legacy. He died on June 25, 2009, at age 50.

His musical and visual influence remains significant in the work of generations of singers, dancers and directors.
