53W53 Residence by André Fu Studio: Residential Luxury Above Manhattan
A New York residence brings furniture, artworks and Carrara marble into dialogue with Jean Nouvel’s diagonal structure.
A residence shaped by the building
At 53W53 in New York, André Fu’s 2019 residential interior responds to Jean Nouvel’s architecture and the tower’s diagonal structure. The studio describes the residence as its first project in New York, bringing a new setting to its design practice.

Furniture and art in conversation
Pieces from the André Fu Living collection sit alongside furniture made specifically for the residence. Fu also worked with French gallerist Emmanuel Perrotin on the display of artworks, placing furniture and art within the same spatial composition.

Making the diagrid part of daily life
Instead of treating the building’s geometry as an obstacle, the interior draws it into functional details. Beside the kitchen, a custom Carrara marble counter interlocks with a diagonal beam. In the bedroom, another marble surface crosses the diagrid to form a compact desk.
