Beata Heuman: Rooms That Sing With Character and Imagination

Beata Heuman believes an interior should have its own unmistakable personality. In her hands, the confidence of color and pattern is balanced with clean lines, practical thinking and small details that make a room feel personal rather than merely fashionable.

From Sweden to a London studio
Born in Sweden, Heuman founded her London interior design practice in 2013. The studio has since developed a portfolio of residential projects in the United Kingdom and internationally, with work informed by the character of the buildings and the people who live in them.
A philosophy of contrast
Heuman describes a room as something that should sing. That philosophy emerges in the balance between playful decoration and careful function: memorable shapes are supported by considered circulation, comfort and proportion.
Design beyond commissions

In 2021, she published Every Room Should Sing, a book that brought her approach to a broader readership. Her Shoppa collection extends ideas developed in interiors into fabrics, wallpaper, lighting, furniture and smaller objects. A design course released in 2025 expanded that educational dimension.
The personal as the original
Her practice demonstrates how personality and longevity can work together. The dialogue between confident color, thoughtfully selected objects and everyday functionality gives her rooms a character that feels both highly composed and genuinely lived in. Across residences and original collections, familiar design elements become vehicles for surprise without losing comfort or utility.
