Royal Elegance: A Closer Look at Meghan Markle's Stunning Wedding Dress

The royal wedding took place on the 19th of this month. However, well before this date, there were many speculations about what the wedding dress of Meghan Markle, who married Prince Harry, would look like.

Meghan Markle's dress

Boasting a boat neckline, with matte sheen and six structural seams: this was the dress designed by British designer Clare Waight Keller, who runs Givenchy. The inspiration for this model would have come from the costumes of the first black bride of Western royalty, Angela of Liechtenstein, who married Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein in January 2000.

The piece, designed by Angela, has strong similarities with that of Prince Harry's wife: the off-the-shoulder neckline and the absence of details. In addition, the dress alludes to the American elegance of Jacqueline Kennedy, who was married to President John Kennedy.

“The focus of the gown is the open, graphic bateau neckline that gracefully frames the shoulders and emphasizes the slender, sculpted waist. The gown's lines extend to the back, where the train flows in soft, round folds, protected by an underskirt in triple silk organza. The thin three-quarter sleeves add a note of refined modernity,” says the official statement released by the Royal Family.

Meghan Markle's veil

The veil worn by Meghan Markle also caught the attention of the world (some would say that the veil was the protagonist of the look). The Palace explained that Meghan wanted to represent the 53 countries of the Commonwealth. For this reason, the 5 meter long veil was designed to represent the characteristic flora of each country in a floral composition.

The stylist Clare studied the native flora of the 53 countries of this community and created, from different types of flowers, embroidery in silk and organza threads to decorate the entire hem. The idea for the pages to be responsible for lifting it was Meghan's.

The Commonwealth, which is led by Queen Elizabeth, will be a central part of Prince Harry and Meghan's official work.

But the Community was not the only one honored by the bride. She also included wheat, symbolizing love and charity, and chose even more significant flowers, such as the wintersweet, present in the gardens of Kensington Palace, right in front of the house she shares with her husband, and the California poppy, the representative flower of the state where it was born.

And, as it is the haute couture atelier of one of the biggest brands in the world (Givenchy), the entire manufacturing process was meticulous, so much so that Clare's entire team had to wash their hands every half hour to touch the piece.

Meghan Markle's Tiara

The tiara worn by the bride was from Queen Mary, grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II. It is made from 1932 English diamonds, with the central brooch dating from 1893.

Meghan Markle's hairstyle

Meghan Markle's hairstyle gave the talk: she entered the church wearing a low bun with a few loose strands in front of her face.

Serge Normant was the hairdresser who signed the hairstyle and said that Audrey Hepburn's minimalism was the biggest inspiration for shaping the strands. In addition, naturalness was already a feature of Meghan, which was maintained at the ceremony.

Serge commented that her wish was that Meghan could tuck loose strands behind her ears if she wanted to. “We call it a messy bun. Messy in a controlled way - making sure it doesn't become a mess after a few hours," he explained.

Meghan Markle's makeup

Meghan opted for a translucent makeup, with transparent spots and freckles, one of the main beauty trends. The lipstick was a transparent one in a shade between pink and coral. On the cheeks, a slight blush. On the eyes, smoky brown eyeshadow and lots of mascara.
