ISSEY MIYAKE Spring/Summer 2027: Figure of Ma

ISSEY MIYAKE presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, “Figure of Ma,” at Dojo de Paris on 2 October 2026. Designed under Satoshi Kondo, the collection begins with the relationship between a single expanse of cloth and the body, treating the Japanese idea of ma — the space or interval between elements — as both a structural and sensory principle.

Figure of Ma
The house describes the season as an exploration of the richness created between body and fabric. That idea becomes visible through garments that create, preserve or reshape air around the body rather than simply tracing it. The collection was developed in dialogue with pianist Koki Nakano, linking the rhythm of music to the changing volume and movement of the clothes.

Material systems in motion
Among the collection’s named series are FLUIGLYPH, BALLOON TWIST, DRAPED ENSEMBLE, BILLOW, CAPRICE and TEMPO PLEATS. Each uses a different construction logic — from seamless knitting and twisted volume to drape, translucency and pleating — while returning to the same central question: how clothing can change as the wearer moves.

Lightness, volume and the body
The season also develops BALLOONING and COCOON BODY, extending the house’s research into volume and bodily form. Rather than treating space as emptiness, the collection turns it into an active part of the garment: air, folds, rounded structures and shifting surfaces become part of how each look is experienced.
