Abel Tesfaye, conocido como The Weeknd, nació en Toronto en 1990 y llamó la atención a comienzos de la década de 2010 con música publicada online de forma relativamente anónima. House of Balloons, Thursday y Echoes of Silence mezclaron R&B oscuro, electrónica y pop en un sonido muy influyente.

Del R&B alternativo al pop global

Beauty Behind the Madness impulsó Can’t Feel My Face y The Hills; Starboy amplió su escala internacional y After Hours convirtió Blinding Lights y una estética cinematográfica en fenómenos globales. Dawn FM continuó el enfoque conceptual con synth-pop y referencias ochenteras.

Videoclips, actuaciones e identidad visual forman parte esencial de su obra. Su impacto está en unir vulnerabilidad, producción electrónica y ambición pop sin perder la atmósfera de sus primeros trabajos.
